Abstract

Approaches to teaching and learning vary depending on discipline, the context of the classroom, and purpose of the instruction. The focus of the panel is to demonstrate innovative teaching strategies that are culturally relevant and foster critical thinking. This panel will focus on novel and practical teaching strategies to engage with student learning. Dr. Caballero focuses on using spoken word as a catalyst to teach students complicated ideas. Dr. Fletcher focuses on using the tenets of intersectionality to frame a flipped classroom. Dr. Kelly applies the principles of the World Café to foster learning in informal ways. Doctoral candidate from Purdue University Jessica Rohr uses intercultural learning in a German language classroom to provide students with strategies on how to engage appropriately in different cultural contexts. This panel will focus on the method of innovating teaching strategies for the classroom.
