S4 Time to take another look: Using Open Education Resources to increase student equity and success

Abstract

This panel discussion will focus on increasing college affordability and equity for students through the use of Open Educational Resources (OER). Led by Dr. Bea Hardy, Dean of Libraries and Instructional Resources, we will advocate for inclusion and creation of this affordable option. Strategic planning for inclusion of OER, along with ways in which interdisciplinary collaboration can implement OER in instruction will be discussed. Sitting on the panel will be faculty from across disciplines that have used or created their own OER to discuss their experience, resources, and the pros and cons to the conversion. This session will introduce H5P, a free tool that can be used to create interactive content. Attendees will learn about various H5P content types (image hotspots, interactive video, quizzes, branching scenario) and see examples from an open educational textbook.
