S10 Round Table Discussion: Guidelines for DEI in tenure and promotion evaluation

Abstract

Faculty and staff are invited to this roundtable discussion to explore ways to incorporate diversity, equity, and inclusion in the faculty teaching evaluation process, including the tenure and promotion evaluation. Salisbury University’s faculty senate recently voted to require all faculty members to incorporate DEI into teaching and to measure this in faculty evaluations, and in the tenure and promotion processes. Specifically, they noted in the faculty senate motion, “Each department and CHHS schools are required to develop guidelines for DEI work in evaluation and tenure and promotion by the beginning of the fall 2025 semester”. However, little direction has been provided to help departments and schools achieve this. This round table discussion hopes to start the conversation of how departments and schools can accomplish this by the fall 2025 deadline. We plan to utilize this starting roundtable discussion to identify what faculty need from the administration to support and guide this initiative. In addition, we hope to identify next steps including generating department/CHHS school specific resources and guidelines to promote the implementation of this teaching expectation.
